Diaconie collecte in november – Southwark Day Centre for Asylum Seekers (SDCAS)

Voor velen van jullie een bekend project dat wij al sinds de stichting van het SDCAS steunen, en dat nog steeds echt de moeite waard is.

Thank you for choosing SDCAS as your charity in November. SDCAS is operating three drop-in centres for Asylum Seekers and Refugees, on three different days per week. We have been seeing record numbers this year due to nearby hotels and hostels accommodating newly arrived clients who are very isolated and come to the Day Centre for English classes, advice, gardening, art and conversation groups, nice food and general socialising. Often, we serve 80-90 people on a Tuesday and only slightly fewer on Mondays and Wednesdays. Our advice team is very busy trying to assist with questions around asylum claims and housing queries for those who have received status. On a Wednesday we often all go into the church garden to eat, drink and have fun activities. It is about getting people involved in activities and lightening the mood. So many people see the Day Centre as their second home and feel comfortable in the space. Many have made friends and benefit from the peer support that is created. We currently need funds for hot meals and some general hardship money to enable clients to travel to appointments for example. We also see an increasing number of homeless clients who need basic assistance. Thank you so much for your ongoing support! For more information: www.sdcas.org.uk
