De bootvluchteling
During a walk exploring the town of Calpe (Spain),we found this interesting sculpture, with this description: It symbolizes the tragedy of those who, driven by despair, risk their lives – and often lose them – by throwing themselves into the sea in the hope of finding a more dignified life.
As we so often hear these days, there are too many people and that we should close the borders etc. As a consequence we seem to have lost the understanding and compassion of what it must be like to flee your homeland for reasons of war and persecution. Often forgetting what it must be like living in those circumstances .There seems to be so many hard hearts and selfish thoughts about ones own circumstances. Simply put, too many hard hearts are not good, especially for nations or the world. The sculptor must have thought about all the people lost and their families back home, such an unnecessary tragedy.
Let our prayer be:
Lord restore my tenderness.
